The Celtic Wheel of the Year is a traditional calendar system that marks eight seasonal festivals throughout the year, based on the cycles of the sun and the natural world, celebrating key points like solstices, equinoxes, and the midpoints between them. We created this set of eight original fragrances to honor each of these ancient major festivals:
Imbolc / Cross of Brigid: subtle heather, luxurious rose, bright narcissus, and earthy vetiver. Imbolc marks the halfway point between the winter solstice and spring equinox, and celebrates the end of the winter's darkest days as the light grows longer. It is related to Candlemas.
Ostara: heather, rosemary, and black pepper. Ostara celebrates the Spring Equinox as a time of renewal and change, and is celebrated by planting seeds, eating seasonal foods, spring cleaning, and activities that include, as with its related holiday Easter, painting eggs and celebrating nature's return from winter.
Beltane: rose, jasmine, clary sage, and frankincense. Celebrating the start of summer, Beltane means "the fires of Bel" and is traditionally celebrated by igniting large bonfires and decorating the home with seasonal flowers, as well as traditional festivals that include a Maypole dance.
Litha: lemon, orange, ylang ylang, and myrtle. Litha marks the summer solstice and honors the sun, nature, and the start of the longest days of the year.
Lughnasadh: blackberry, oats and honey. Celebrating the first harvest, this festival traditionally celebrates the Celtic god Lugh, and is also known as Lammas and is celebrated by feasting, holding athletic contests, baking bread, and making creative crafts.
Mabon: warm apple pie, fresh-cut green apples, and harvest-time spices. Celebrating the autumnal equinox and the second harvest, it's also known as the Feast of the Ingathering and is a time to celebrate the earth's bounty, honor the balance of light and dark, and prepare for the coming winter.
Samhain: thick resins, dark patchouli and mulling spices. Marking the end of summer and beginning of winter, this holiday was a major festival in ancient Celtic traditions and is when the boundary between the living and the dead was thinnest. It is also when Celtic tribes would assemble to make political decisions.
Yule: juniper, Christmas wreaths, pine trees, and campfire. Yule highlights the winter solstice, when the days are shortest and the nights longest. Celebrating the rebirth of the sun and the return of light, it is celebrated by decorating an evergreen tree indoors, by burning a Yule log, burning candles, and enjoying the comfort of home.
This set includes x8 bottles of undiluted (not skin safe) 10mL diffuser oil blends. Diffuser oils may be used in oil diffusers, humidifiers, added to dryer balls to scent laundry, and countless applications.
