Meadowfoam Seed Oil Benefits

Native to the Pacific Northwest, Meadowfoam is a flowering plant that typically grows in grassy, wet marshlands and meadows. Its seeds are cold pressed to create a wonderfully beneficial oil we use in our products, such as our Sol Bars.

Skin Benefits

Meadowfoam seed oil is quickly making its way into the mainstream skincare industry due to its many benefits:

  • Mimics skin's natural sebum, making it ideal for all skin types
  • May help prevent and heal sun damage by supporting skin health during and after sun exposure, serving as a form of natural SPF and skin-supporting antioxidation properties that strengthen cells against UV damage
  • May act as an emollient (creates a protective seal across skin, sealing in moisture and softening skin)
  • May reduce the appearance of wrinkles by replenishing lost moisture
  • Absorbs easily into skin without a greasy or heavy texture

A 2018 lab study shows its possible protective role against UVB rays from the sun, making it a popular ingredient in natural sunscreens and sun-protective lotions. The meadowfoam plant was originally discovered by a Scottish explorer on the west coast of America in the 1820s and holds the alternate name "poached egg plant" due to the flower's appearance.
