Red Raspberry Seed Oil for Skin
Red raspberry seed oil is being recognized as a solid option in skincare. While the FDA has not approved red raspberry seed oil as a natural sunscreen, many may view it as a natural alternative. It boasts many topical uses beyond this, and is an ideal ingredient with many skincare uses.
Red raspberry seed oil is:
- very high in antioxidants, meaning it may aid in fighting oxidative stress to skin cells when used topically. This may help sooth eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis
- is high in vitamin A and vitamin E, which help skin cells renew themselves, healing damage and working to slow the aging process
- is noncomedogenic (won't clog pores) and contains linoleic acid, which may help reduce acne breakouts and balance the skin's natural oils (useful when the weather can get warm)
- may aid in skin hydration and moisture retention, due to having high levels of phytosterosis
Red Raspberry Seed Oil as a Natural Sunblock
We make our Sol Bars with red raspberry seed oil, combined with zinc oxide and other sun-researched ingredients, however we recommend an FDA-approved option for sun protection, especially for skin cancer prevention. As a natural sunscreen, red raspberry seed oil is most likely not enough to prevent skin cancer when applied to skin on its own, as it only absorbs UVB and UVC sun rays.
As awareness of the chemicals found in natural sunscreen are becoming more formally scrutinized, many are looking for natural options. Some traditional sunscreen ingredients have been linked to the collapse of coral reefs, which naturally raises corresponding health concerns. Many also claim to be sensitive to traditional sunscreens, and so seek other options.
