xSamhain Soy Wax Candle
Merlot, Dragon's Blood, and Smoked Patchouli
When the nights get long and the leaves have begun to turn, it is time to light the Samhain soy wax candle. The rich fragrance of Merlot wine opens, smooth and velvety, with dark fruit underneath. Smoked patchouli attends to the scents of earth and woodsmoke, while dragon's blood settles in with a warm and resinous edge. Smoky and moody, the Samhain soy wax candle is our tribute to the ancient Celtic festival Samhain, when the veil between worlds is said to be at its thinnest.

What Is Samhain?
The origin of today's Halloween, the tradition of Samhain travels to us from Ireland's distant past. The traditional Celtic beginning of winter, Samhain is the period when the Veil, the invisible barrier between the world of mortals and the Otherworld of the gods and ancestors, is at its thinnest. At this time, spirits of the dead, as well as things much more malevolent, are able to pass into the mortal realm to do good or ill. Historically, children would carve wicked faces into hollowed-out turnips and put candles in them to scare evil spirits away, the ancestor of our jack o'lanterns.
Samhain is closely associated with the Morrigan, a powerful Irish goddess of war, triumph, and guardianship ("rig," in Indo-European languages, denotes a king or queen who has earned their place by protecting their people). On Samhain, the Morrigan was said to ride forth from Oweynagat, or the Cave of the Cats, near the ancient city of Rathcrogan. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rathcrogan archaeological complex is closely associated with the legendary Queen Medb, the erstwhile antagonist of the Tain bo Culaigne, one of Ireland's ancient poems of epic heroism.
FAQ
- What does the Samhain candle smell like? Dark red wine up front, earthy smoked patchouli in the middle, and warm, slightly sweet dragon's blood resin underneath. Smoky and resinous, closer to old incense than to a pumpkin-spice candle.
- Is this a good Halloween candle? Yes. The Samhain Soy Wax Candle is our Halloween candle, for anyone who wants the night to smell older and moodier than candy corn.
- What is Samhain? The Celtic festival of October 31 through November 1, the traditional beginning of winter and the ancient Irish origin of Halloween. It marks the third and final harvest of the year.
- How long does it burn? About 40 hours for the 7 oz amber jar.

Tips & Safety
xCANDLE TIPS:
- Before first lighting any candle, make sure to trim the wick down to 1/4", and always trim the wick down again before relighting. We suggest wick trimmers for this purpose if candles are a constant in your life.
- The first time you light a candle, allow it to burn for at least one hour to allow the flame to form a wax pool across the entire top of the candle. This will help prevent tunneling over the course of the candle's life.
- While we always use 100% premium fragrance oils, they are still artificial recreations of scents and cannot be called all-natural. If you are interested in candles fragrances with all-natural additives, try our essential oils aromatherapy candles!
SAFETY WARNINGS:
- Always burn candles within sight.
- Never burn on or near flammable objects or drafts.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Stop using candle when less than 1/4" of wax remains.
- Container may be hot when and after candle is lit. Allow wax to cool completely before handling.
