Who is Manannan mac Lir?

Manannán mac Lir ("Son of the Sea" in Irish) is the Irish sea god who protects sailors crossing the Irish Sea. Ruling from the Isle of Man, he ensures abundant crops and bountiful hauls from fishing boats, as told in ancient stories of the island paradise. Like his better known Greek counterpart Poseidon, Manannán mac Lir protects sailors and can cross the land or sea in his chariot drawn by his horse (named Aonbharr or Enbarr, and is white or grey), which allows him to travel faster than the wind itself.
